planetMitch note: granted this isn’t the best Canon EOS-1D MKIV video – but it is one of the first releases after production… so I’m posting it.

WICHITA from Wade Hampton on Vimeo.

Lonny Quattlebaum (L Bomb) and I decided to walk around on a cold night in Wichita and test the low light capabilities of the Canon 1D Mark IV.

The film starts clean and then I started to play with Magic Bullet’s color correction. I showed how clean the footage can look, and how rough it can look (I love both looks).

Ok, it’s a 1D MKIV video.. so what?
I don’t see anything special about this. No structure, just different sample clips cut together.
    Sorry.. doesn’t work for me

I appreciate your comment – probably really should have put it over on the blog because it isn’t the best of samples, but like I said, it is early Canon EOS-1D MKIV so I picked it.

you could have done better stuff with it, I believe

I’m at the really beginning of all that filming… I just uploaded my first ever shot video to vimeo .. I asked to upload it here on the site to get some helpful comments from some pros… but they didn’t uploaded it here on the “cinema”.

So it’s kinda frustrating for me to see that others get their videos uploaded here just because it’s made with a 1DMK4.

So I hope you don’t get my wrong.
    Thanks far sharing anyway

Sebastian, thank you too for your comments.

In regard to your submissions, I actually have a large backlog of videos that have been submitted in the last month or so and I haven’t gone thru all of them yet. I will be going thru them and will consider yours for either the cinema or the blog. I’m sorry I’m so far behind – creating the cinema (and a new feature coming soon) has taken quite a bit of my spare time.

First of all, I would like to thank you Mitch for putting my films up on your site.

And, to Sebastian, I would like to say that I completely understand your frustration. I know this is no great film, and we never intended for it to be… it was just us testing this camera’s low light capabilities before we use it for an upcoming short film and feature.

Now, in defense of Mitch, it’s obvious that he knows this isn’t amazing or anything, but he is doing a great service to the whole DSLR (as video cameras) world. I for one devour the internet looking samples from these cameras, and to get tips on lenses, techniques, etc.

And since the 1DMKIV is so new, there is hardly any footage out there for people to see, especially if they are thinking about purchasing the camera. And Mitch is just trying to continue to get these samples and images to his readers/viewers. Now, does it deserve to be apart of the “Cinema” section, probably not, but I do think Art is arbitrary and open to interpretation. The great thing about Mitch’s system is that people can decide for themselves by voting and giving this piece nothing but 1 star.

So, Sebastian, I do understand what you are saying and I hope to get a piece up here someday that earns your respect and I do look forward to seeing your work.

And, Mitch, thank you again for all your hard work, your site has become such a valuable resource to me and so many others.

    Thanks to you both.

    Hey Wade,

you’re totally right in what you’re saying.
I didn’t noticed and didn’t know that Mitch is the owner of the site and is building everything up here.

He’s doing a great job, like I sad before.
No worries I now understand the whole issue and why he put it up here.

    Sebastian
