A short video I created for Still Motion’s Big Shots contest. Shot and edited in 3 days, and my first video shot on the GH2.

Instructions: “Use the song “Honey” by Sunbeam, the theme Family, and only Ambient / Nat Sounds to create a 55 – 60 Second Film.”
I placed an additional restriction on myself: don’t shoot footage of live people. I wanted to show the family by their absence, by showing their artifacts, almost like an archaeologist. (I cheated a bit by using photographs of my family.)
I also consciously locked my camera down. If the camera moved at all, the house somehow felt less empty, as if an implied visitor was in the home.
I’m still learning how to use the GH2, and shoot on a “DSLR”. Sadly, a lot of my footage was marred by the dreaded noise bug in the GH2 firmware, which was a huge bummer.
If only I hadn’t learned of the contest a mere 3 days before it was due. I sure could have used more time. It ain’t gonna win any awards, but I had fun doing it and learning a few things in the process. Thanks for watching!
